Party at the Underground...

This year for the Underground, we had a two-part Christmas party. Last week we played all of the team relay races and dressed a team member up as Santa, but this week we decided to do something a little different. While these teenagers and young adults can become excitedly involved in just about any game or competition you give them, they also have grown and matured a lot this year and we have begun to see that they also love having time to talk, hang out, and be with friends. So, we decided for the second part of their party, we would have a nice pizza dinner. We decorated all the tables with red and green and each teen received pizza and soda. They were able to spend time talking, eating, and just enjoying one another’s company while the volunteers and follow up staff served them their pizza and drinks.

After that we had different tables set up where they could decorate cookies, decorate picture frames for the new pictures they received tonight, and where the girls could do their nails. We also had a slideshow playing with all of the fun and crazy pictures we have from this year. The boys enjoyed a friendly arm-wrestling competition, and some of the kids showed off their excellent dancing skills! It has been really nice to see this growth in them that they thoroughly enjoy and long to have friends, be a friend, and spend time with friends.

We had a great time hanging at with them tonight and getting to spend time knowing each of them a little bit better! And of course, they all had a great time receiving their Christmas gift at the end of the night!
